Terms of use
1. What this platform is and what it is not
Create The New World is a place where people and social and environmental projects publish what they need and what they can offer, and find each other.
We are a meeting point, and we take seriously that it should be a safe one.
This is what we do:
- We review every project by hand before it is published, and we reject the ones that do not follow these rules.
- We keep a report button on every profile and every project, open to anyone, and we read every report.
- We remove content that breaks these terms and suspend accounts that put other people at risk.
- No payment passes through the platform: nobody can use it to charge you or to hold your money.
- We limit locations to a city or region, to protect projects working with people at risk.
This is what we cannot do:
- We do not verify the identity of the people who register.
- We cannot confirm that a project really exists, that it is what it says it is, or that it uses well what it receives.
- We do not mediate or supervise agreements between participants.
- We do not give legal, financial, medical or any other professional advice.
Our review filters out the obvious. It is not an audit, and a published project does not mean we have checked it or that we endorse it.
2. Who can take part
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
You can register as a person, as a collective or as an organisation. If you publish on behalf of an organisation, you state that you are authorised to do so.
3. Your account
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password safe. If you think someone got into it, write to us at contact@createthenew.world.
One person, one account. Do not create accounts to impersonate another person or organisation.
You can close your account whenever you want from your profile settings.
4. What you publish
What you write and upload stays yours. By publishing it on the platform you give us permission to show it inside the platform and in searches, which is what the platform needs to work. Nothing else: we do not sell it, we do not license it to third parties and we do not use it in advertising.
That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
When you publish something you state that you have the right to do it: that the text and the images are yours or that you have permission to use them.
About other people: Do not publish other people's data without their consent. This matters especially for photos of identifiable people, and much more if they are minors or people in a vulnerable situation. Do not publish information about someone else's health, religion, origin, orientation or legal situation either.
About locations: Give a city or region, never an exact address. If your project works with people at risk, this is not a recommendation: it is a condition for publishing.
5. What is not allowed
You may not use the platform to:
- Mislead, defraud or ask for money under false pretences.
- Impersonate a person or an organisation.
- Publish invented projects or deliberately exaggerate what a project does.
- Harass, threaten, discriminate or incite hatred or violence.
- Publish sexual or violent content, or content that exploits people in any way.
- Contact minors for purposes unrelated to the platform.
- Send mass advertising or unsolicited messages.
- Sell commercial products or services.
- Collect other users' data through automated means.
- Try to break the security of the platform.
- Anything that is illegal in your country or in the Netherlands.
6. How we review
Every new project goes through a manual review before it becomes visible. We look at whether it is a real and understandable project, whether it fits the purpose of the platform, whether it asks for money in a suspicious way, and whether it exposes data or locations that could put someone at risk.
What that review cannot do is confirm that the project exists on the ground or that the person is who they say they are. It filters out the obvious. It is not an endorsement.
We can reject, edit or remove content that breaks these terms, and do so without prior notice when someone is at risk.
7. What happens between people is between them
This is the most important part of this document.
When you contact someone through the platform and you agree on something (a donation, the loan of a space, working hours, materials, whatever it is), that agreement is only between you. We are not a party to it, we do not supervise it and we do not answer for whether it is kept or for its consequences.
Use the same judgement you would use with any stranger. Check who you are dealing with before you commit money, time or access to a space.
Before donating to a project, check its identity yourself. Look the organisation up outside the platform: its website, its social channels, its public registration if it has one. Ask to speak with someone. A real project has no problem identifying itself. Be wary of urgency, of anyone asking for money quickly, and of anyone avoiding the question of who they are. If something does not add up, stop and report it.
8. Money
Between participants, money never passes through the platform. We do not process payments, we do not hold funds and we do not take a commission. If you agree on a transfer, you make it directly between you and at your own responsibility.
Taking part is free and it will stay free.
Donations to the platform. You can support us with donations or subscriptions through external services such as Patreon or PayPal. Those payments are governed by the terms of those services, not by these. What we receive goes to keeping and improving the platform and to the people working on it.
9. Reporting content
There is a report button on every profile and every project. Anyone can use it, even without an account.
We review reports as soon as we can. If we remove content, we tell the person who published it and explain why, and that person can reply by writing to us at contact@createthenew.world.
If you believe something is a crime, report it to the authorities in your country as well. We are not a reporting channel and we cannot act in your place.
10. Suspension and closure
We can suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms, that puts other people at risk, or that uses the platform for purposes unrelated to it.
When it is reasonable, we warn first and give a chance to fix things. When someone is at risk, we act first.
11. Availability
The platform is under development. It can fail, change or be temporarily out of service. We do our best to keep it running, but we do not guarantee continuous availability or that the current features will stay.
If we ever decide to close it, we will give reasonable notice so you can download your information.
12. Liability
We offer this platform as it is, with care but without guarantees.
We are not liable for the content users publish, for the truthfulness of projects, for what happens in agreements between participants, or for damages arising from those agreements or from using the platform.
None of the above excludes our liability in cases where the law does not allow it to be excluded, such as intent or gross negligence.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms will change as the platform grows. When a change is important, we will tell you by email or with a notice on the platform before it takes effect. The date of the last update is always shown above.
If you do not agree with a change, you can close your account.
14. Applicable law
Dutch law applies to these terms. Disputes go to the competent courts of Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, unless the law gives you the right to go to the courts of your own country.
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the place where you live.
